    Ehud Asherie, “a master of swing and stride" (The New Yorker), is a jazz pianist who integrates the venerable New York piano tradition into his inventive style. Born in Israel in , Asherie lived in Italy for six years before his family moved to New York. Though he began playing piano as a child, his passion for jazz came later—with a Thelonious Monk cassette tape—and his first visit to Smalls Jazz club in Greenwich Village. Largely self-taught, or rather, “old-schooled,” Asherie learned the ropes at Smalls, spending the wee small hours of his early teens becoming a fixture of the late-night jam sessions.  

    Mentored by the late Frank Hewitt, Asherie began to develop “his virtuosity and his ear for clean, crisp lines“ (The Star-Ledger).     Born in , he is a mainstay of the New York City jazz scen. He has been studying piano since the age of 7. In and he attended the jazz program at the New School University, studying privately with jazz piano player Frank Hewitt. He currently studies with classical piano teacher Jeff Goldstein. For two years he has been playing regularly at the renowned jazz club Smalls with his own trio, the Grant Stewart Quartet and the Neil Miner Quintet. He has also served as a rehearsal pianist for the Village Vanguard Orchestra. Still, at this early stage in his career, he has already performed with such notables as Peter Bernstrin, Joe Cohn, Billy Drummond, Bobby Durham, Frank Gant, Paul Gill, Jimmy Green, Dennis Irwin, Ben Dixon,Jimmy Lovelace, Joe Magnarelli, Bob Mover, Tim Pleasant,Bina Coquet (samba de Gringo), Ben Street and Mark Taylor.

    Early life

    Asherie was born in Israel in [1] He moved with his family to Italy at the age of three,[1] where he attended the Sir James Henderson School, now The British School of Milan,[2] and then to the United States when he was nine.[1] As a teenager in New York, he visited Smalls Jazz Club, and took lessons from Frank Hewitt, a pianist who often played there.[1] Asherie first played at Smalls when he was a high school sophomore.[3]
