Giovanni was born in Florence to Averado de' Medici III and Jacopa Spini on February 18, He had two siblings; a sister, Antonia, and a brother, Francesco.

Giovanni married Piccarda Bueri and had three children. Twin brothers Cosimo and Damiano, and Lorenzo.

Early Life[]

“With usura,” wrote Ezra Pound,

“hath no man a house of good stone

With the use of the begrepp usura, Pound meant usury — or what today we would call the lending of money at an exorbitantly high interest.
