The multi-layered socio-political narratives found within the kaleidoscopic psychedelia of Camille Rose Garcia’s paintings, arrive as subtle and effective triggers to our subconscious minds, initiating our unconscious processing of issues and events concerning these most troubling of contemporary times. Through the years, Garcia’s inventive use of symbolism has pulled heavily upon her nostalgia and passion for various facets and eras of the creative arts, including, Disney animation, 70’s punk rock and classic sci-fi literature. American lowbrow/pop surrealism artist
Camille Rose Garcia (born 1970)[citation needed] is a California-based lowbrow/pop surrealism artist. She paints in a goth subculture cartoon style. She says her influences are Walt Disney and Philip K. Dick.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Garcia's parents met in art school in San Francisco. Her father, filmmaker David Garcia, was of Mexican and Yaqui background, and her mother, Rosemary Garcia, is a muralist. Garcia's parents divorced when she was young and her mother raised her and her sister in Orange County, in close proximity to Disneyland.[2][3][4]
Camille Rose Garcia received her Master of Fine Arts degree at University of California at Davis in 1994 and her BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in 1992. In my previous post I promise to give a commentary on Christine Bersola’s article at Philippine Star’s Parentin Talk entitled “Being Gay” having Clinical Psychologist Dr. Camille Garcia on the footnote. It can be noted that both the author and her resource person received backlash from the LGBT community, Psychology body and from those who are practicing related field of discipline. And even ordinary person like me.
Personally I do not feel that this is a particular issue that will impact the Philippines so much like a raise of credit rating to AAA but it is important that we will understand such issues that stirred public concern and interest. Especially coming from people we understood as authorities in certain field of discipline – in this case clinical psychology. Simply because you do not want to be swayed into believing an idea that is based on a predisposition that it was said by so called “expert’s opinion” and not the truth. The attempt to explain it is admirable but
