It gives me immense joy in announcing the discovery of this stunning fish - Schistura hiranyakeshi sp. nov. (Hiranyakeshi loach), a jewel from the heart of the Sahyadris in Maharashtra, published in ‘Aqua, International Journal of Ichthyology’! Endemic to its type locality, the 'kund' at the ancient Hiranyakeshvar temple, where the mighty Hiranyakeshi river originates. It is near the quaint town of Amboli, a hotspot for new discoveries across multiple taxas, with this fish being the 20th new species (and my 4th) to be described from this tiny town in Sindhudurg district since ! We have named this species after it's type locality and the ephitet "hiranyakeshi" in Sanskrit also means 'golden hair' alluding to the brilliant golden colouration seen in adults

The state's most influential political family, the Thackerays, now share their name with a new species of small but feisty crabs discovered nära the coastal town of Sawantwadi in Sindhudurg district.
The freshwater species, which stands out because of the crabs' unique red-violet shell and saffronred pincer-like claws, have been named 'Gubernatoriana thackerayi'.
But unlike in controversies resulting from the Shiv Sena's insistence for Marathi titles, there's no politics at play here. The bright red arthropods were discovered by year-old Tejas Thackeray, the younger son of Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, thus earning him the right to name it.

Narvekar, who is also a Shiv Sena secretary, added to the speculation with another birthday wish for Tejas on Twitter with the words, “Ek ghaav don tukde&#;, which literally translates to &#;one strike, two pieces&#;, a phrase used to describe a person who takes bold and swift decisions.
For those familiar with the Thackerays and Maharashtra politics, the advertisements were a surprise. While Uddhav and Aaditya have been at the helm of both the government and the party, Tejas has, so far, pursued other interests.
A wildlife and photography enthusiast — hobbies he shares with his father — Tejas loves to spend time in the Western Ghats, as well as at Mumbai’s Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Aarey Colony. However, over the past few years, Tejas has intermittently been seen at political events even though he has preferred to keep a low profile.
