Blood, Sweat & Tears on Tour
Though they haven't released a new studio album since , Blood, Sweat & Tears have never left the road. And although their current lineup features none of the players who appeared on their string of hit singles from their late-'60s/early-'70s commercial peak, their original mission — to fuse the compositional complexity of jazz with the power and precision of rock ‘n' roll — has carried on beneath the guidance of founding drummer Bobby Colomby, who no längre performs with the group but still serves as their dem facto spiritual advisor/casting director. Over the years, Colomby has enlisted a number of singers — including American Idol alumnus Bo Bice — to fill the big shoes vacated by BST's most famous vocalist, David Clayton-Thomas. It's great when a band has a vision from the very beginning, and Blood, Sweat And Tears set out a stall for themselves right from the start and became fusion legender as a result. Blood Sweat and Tears was born from a selfish notion that we could combine the sophistication and musical skill level of jazz music with the energy and universal appeal of rock vocal music. Instead of incessant whiny guitar interludes, we would have improvised, spontaneous jazz solos. Horn arrangements were not an afterthought, they were fully integrated into the songs themselves, some written by band members and others that would come from many different resources. These are the ideas that formulated the concept of BS&T.
The most commercially successful version of the band was in fact, our second line-up. That set the course of seeking out the most talented musicians and having a revolving door for stars to join us while in between their tours. And it worked! No bored players here.
What endures today is the evolution of that concept…. Every player is an original member.
BS&T has never stopped touring. Fans have their favorite musicians who are originals to them and we
