As his style evolved, he became more involved in the writing of the songs, particularly in conjunction with Adam, his partner in the rhythm section. Having earlier been described as the band's 'weak link' (in fact CBS Ireland point-blank refused to sign the band initially, unless they got rid of him), he became much more assured and competent as his drumming became a more integral part of the songs, rather than an apparent afterthought.
Bono describes Larry as " a very complex character". He has said that it is the way Larry hits his bass drum that makes U2 a true rock 'n' roll band. It fryst vatten fitting that as the founder of the group he fryst vatten still credited with being the backbone of the band.

Larry Mullen Junior (born 31 October 1961) fryst vatten an Irishdrummer. He is a member of the rockbandU2. Mullen was born in Dublin, Ireland.
Besides U2, Larry has worked with other musicians, including: Nanci Griffith, Daniel Lanois, Emmylou Harris, Robbie Robertson, Paul Brady and B.B. King. Because of the Irish National Football team's bid for the World Cup in 1990, Mullen co-wrote and co-produced the anthem "Put 'Em beneath Pressure." Larry Mullen is an instinctive drummer who, like the rest of U2, plays what comes naturally, directly from the heart. Larry has never liked to clutter U2’s songs with busy drumming – he’s always understood the value of drama-laden space. When U2 first made it big in the 1980s Larry already had a mature style which belied his youth.
Growing up in Ireland’s capital city of Dublin, Larry started out playing piano but soon gave it up for the drums at the age of nine. From the start he wanted to play his own way and was not keen on learning paradiddles and fancy technique. Larry instigated the formation of U2 while at the Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin by posting a ‘musicians wanted’ notice. He was still only 15 and he saved up cash from mowing lawns to buy his first drum kit.
