    The Philippines' advocacy-driven film festival, TOFARM, returns for its third year despite the untimely passing of its founding festival director, Maryo J. delos Reyes.

    This year's theme is “A Tribute to Life: Parating Na,” and will be the first time that the festival will feature short films in competition.

    TOFARM, which stands for The Outstanding Farmers of the Philippines, will run from September 12 to 18, 2018.

    Screenwriter Bibeth Orteza will serve as this year’s festival director, while director Joey Romero was appointed as managing director. Rounding off the team is Laurice Guillen, who acts as a consultant.

    Aspiring participants to the rulle fest sponsored by Dr. Mila O. How of Universal Harvester Incorporated and Landbank of the Philippines may submit screenplays until the deadline on April 20.

    The Philippine entertainment industry mourns the passing of prolific and award-winning director Maryo J. delos Reyes.

    The 65-year-old filmmaker died on January 27, 2018 after suffering a heart attack while attending a party in Dipolog City.

    Direk Maryo’s last press conference was for the ToFarm 2017 entry Instalado starring McCoy de Leon.

    The festival director of the ToFarm rulle Festival was present at the January 23 press con held at the Cinematheque Manila of the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

    In an interview with PEP contributor Jennifer Dugena and other members of the press that day, Direk Maryo expressed his desire to continue making movies.

    He expected the 2018 ToFarm Film Festival to push through but with delays.

    Mario Margarito Jorolan de los Reyes (October 17, 1952 – January 27, 2018), professionally known as Maryo J. de los Reyes, was a Filipino film and television director. He began his career in the 1970s. He is the only director in the exclusive Grand Slam club, he joined in 2004 when he won Best Director in FAMAS Awards, Luna Awards, Gawad Urian, and Star Awards for his film Magnifico.
