  • Mallika Sundaramurthy is the perfect embodiment of an out and out brutal female singer in a male dominated genre, and can definitely be a tough rival to take.

I had the pleasure of catching up with Abnormality’s vocalist Mallika Sundaramurthy, while the band is currently on tour with The Black Dahlia Murder, Napalm Death, and Misery Index. Earlier this year this brutal death metal act released their 2nd full length album, Mechanisms of Omniscience. It has been several months since Empire Extreme has spoken with the band. I wanted to check in, and see how things have been, and what may be next for them while they are out on the road.

GA: I’m here with Abnormality vocalist Mallika

MS: What’s up its Mallika from Abnormality.

GA: Empire Extreme had the pleasure of speaking with you when your album Mechanisms of Omniscience was just released. How have things been going since then? How is the reaction to the new album?

MS: Yeah, we have been getting good review

Last night I pulled close to an all-nighter packaging up orders from our merch store over the weekend and couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude.

There once was a time where I could only hope for people to hear about my bands.. inom would wish for ONE merch order. For ONE e-mail about our music. For ONE touring opportunity. For anyone to care. I would burn cds to label and hand out in hopes that someone may find us and believe in us. It was a years long journey, but I never gave up on that dream. I completely agree with you, though I always found that Angela had quite aggressive vocals, but w/e let's not debate on that haha.

I think Angela was fine for Arch Enemy and I think she's done more for girls in metall than the Nightwishes and Within Temptations and Lacuna Coils which promote crappy stereotypes of pretty things who sing pretty.

Leather Leone has done more for metall than any of the aforementioned.

Doro has done more for hona vocals in metal than anyone around in metal.

Hard to argue with Doro, unless you can argue she's done more for women on the 'rock' side of metal.

Regarding Angela and others, I would say Floor Jansen has probably had the most significant impact on women singing for metal band
