    EC `rejects' appeal for restoration of names

    HYDERABAD: The Election Commission's ongoing voter re-verification drive to restore the names of the 6.3 lakh `deleted' voters could well be turning into a farcical exercise. Case in point: the 40 residents of Divya Apartments in Srinagar Colony , who recently realized that all their names had mysteriously disappeared from the electoral rolls.
    On Friday evening, these `deleted' voters received a startling SMS which read: Your appeal has been rejected.Please contact Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).The message was sent from the official SMS ID of the EC.Incidentally , none of the messages cited any reason for this rejection.
    It may be recalled, that the EC, following news reports about these voters being deleted from the list had dispatched a team earlier this month, to help residents file an appeal to restore their names in its records.

    HYDERABAD: Balala Hakkula Sangham of Hyderabad on Thursday filed a public interest litigation plea in the high court urging it to restrain Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) and the Jubilee Hills TRS MLA Maganti Gopinath from demolishing the compound wall of the Sisu Gruha, the state-run children home, at Vengalarao Nagar and from laying a road through the playground of the children’s home.
    The road is proposed to run between Madhuranagar Colony and Vengalrao Nagar at the instance of the local MLA.
    According to C Atchuta Rao of Balala Hakkula Sangham this road will spell doom for the kids in the home.
